Themes (click on headers) FOOD Yes, ok, we confess, we’re foodies. Always trying to find the local grub that we like best. It’s not always easy, take Cuba for instance. Most visitors to the island carry memories of tasteless meals badly prepared. Which probably is due to the shortage of food the Cubans have had to endure during hard times. But, and this is our point, even in Cuba we found delicious and excellently prepared food. And that goes for Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Ecuador and all other places we have visited as well. Here we list some of them. WALKS Read about walks and hikes we have endured on some of our travels, for instance in Cuba’s Sierra Maestra, the wild mountain range at the southern tip of the island where Fidel Castro’s rebels lay hidden for years. Other stories are about the path leading to the forgotten city of Petra, scouting for orangutans in Sumatra and climbing to the scenic top of Buyukada, one of the Prince Islands near Istanbul. BEACHES Spending time abroad just lying in a deckchair by a beach is never our primary when planning a new journey. But ever so often we spend a few days by the seaside mostly just relaxing from travel fatigue. So far we’ve had sand from Latin America, Africa and Asia between our toes, and of course also from Europe. And we have a couple of favourite beaches that we’d like to reveal to you, dear reader! CITIES Our shorter travels around Europe almost always are about discovering what’s under the surface of some of the big cities of our exciting continent. In our shorter stories about the discoveries we make there are some, we hope, useful tips on what to see, where to eat and where to sleep. ISLANDS Sometimes we surprise ourselves by this reflection: Why do we so often visit islands? There’s been quite a number of them, from big ones like Sri Lanka and Cuba to smaller ones like Zanzibar and Pemba. Ant tiny islands like our absolute favourite Angel Island. So let’s answer the question by describing what we’ve seen. Islands are exotic and special, each one with its own atmosphere.Â
